Penguin Pottery’s glazes offer a wide range of effects to choose from. They are perfect for school projects, classrooms, studios, and potters who do not fire at high temperatures, providing a palette of colors like celadon, lively reds, deep greens, and bright blues. Our mid-fire glazes offer similar color ranges, but also introduce interesting effects and tonality not available in low fire glazes when fired at cone 5 or cone 6 in a pottery kiln. To get great results with our glazes, it's important to mix well before using. Glaze contents may settle, so we recommend thoroughly mixing for 1-2 minutes. Additionally, it's important to choose how to apply the glazes, with options for dipping or brushing, and to apply a dispersing agent like Darvan if choosing to dip. It's also critical to remove all dust from the bisque-fired piece before glazing. It's crucial to fire the glaze to the correct cone, as over-firing will damage the piece and possibly the kiln, and under-firing will produce poor results. Additionally, glazes will react differently depending on factors like firing temperature, clay body, and kiln atmosphere. Penguin Pottery is based in the USA and is an employee-owned company founded by potters. We manufacture our products in New Hampshire and donate 1% of sales to environmental groups. We also support CERF+, a US non-profit organization that safeguards artists' livelihoods nationwide. All of our glazes are lead-free, non-toxic, and food safe when properly fired and tested. Plus, they are backed by our lifetime warranty.
